Dark Matter Sounded…
The world premiere of EYO’s brand new commission, in collaboration with London College of Music, of Dark Matter Sounding by Nina Whiteman took place in front of a packed audience at St Barnabas Church, Ealing on Saturday March 1st. The 10 minute piece, which posed the question “What does the Dark Matter of space sound like?” was preceded by a fascinating introduction by the composer in which she explained some of her compositional methods and asked the orchestra to play a series of excerpts to illustrate some of the unusual techniques used. The orchestra played with huge verve and commitment and the performance received an enthusiastic reception. The concert continued with Respighi’s Pines of Rome, Leonard Bernstein’s Suite from the film On The Waterfront and finally the toe-tapping exuberance of Mexican composer Arturo Marquez’s Danzon No 2, which received a huge ovation.
