Clarisse wins Concertothon trophy

Congratulations to cellist Clarisse Sri-Pathmanathan who was judged winner of EYO’s fourth annual Concertothon last Sunday 26th April by adjudicator Emilie Capulet, eminent pianist and Head of Classical Performance at London College of Music. On an evening of exceptionally strong performances, Clarisse’s moving account of the first movement of Elgar’s Cello Concerto received warm praise for her fluency, beautiful tone and instinctive rapport with the orchestra. Also highly commended were Alice Blows for her virtuosic playing of Dragonetti’s rarely heard Double Bass Concerto, James Wilson for a hugely accomplished vocal selection ranging from Mozart to Wagner by way of Game of Thrones, and Louis Boyer for his soaring performance of the first movement of Bruch’s Violin Concerto no 1. The orchestra, superbly conducted as always by our resident Music Director Leon Gee, was in fine form and demonstrated its versatility in an unusually wide variety of repertoire.

Next stop, the Wathen Hall at St Paul’s School Barnes for our popular annual Summer Concert on Sunday 28th June, when the programme will include Malcolm Arnold’s riotous Grand Grand Concerto, Richard Strauss’s sublime Four Last Songs and Shostakovich’s searing 5th Symphony. Don’t miss it!
