Leon Gee, Musical Director

eyo musical director Leon Gee took over eyo in September 2006. He trained as a violinist and studied conducting at the Birmingham Conservatoire under Jonathan del Mar. As British Arts Council Young Conductor, Leon was appointed founder Music Director for the London Philharmonic Youth Orchestra from 1991-94. Guest engagements have included the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Birmingham Royal Ballet and Shanghai Symphony. Leon is currently Music Director for the Windsor & Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra, following previous posts with the Northampton Symphony Orchestra, British Police Symphony Orchestra and, most recently, the Oxford Symphony Orchestra (1996-2005).
Much in demand with younger orchestras, recent and ongoing work in this field includes conductorship of Junior Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, Oxford University Orchestra, Pro Corda, Berkshire Youth Orchestra and Music Directorship of Worcestershire Youth Orchestra 2001-06. In 1996 Leon was conferred an Honorary Member of the Birmingham Conservatoire, where he has appeared as guest conductor since 1993. Leon also holds an appointment at the Royal Welsh College of Music& Drama Junior Department.
Recent debuts include the Isle of Wight Symphony and the National Scouts & Guides Symphony Orchestra.
