Packed house for EYO Autumn Concert

The first concert of EYO’s 2017-18 season was greeted with huge enthusiasm by a packed house at the beautiful Performance Centre of William Perkin High School on Saturday. The 90-strong orchestra included around 30 new players appearing with EYO for the first time. After a spirited opening of Aaron Copland’s Outdoor Overture, the orchestra was joined by distinguished EYO alumnus Joshua Blows for an outstanding performance of Launy Grøndahl’s rarely-heard Trombone Concerto, then William Walton’s stirring Spitfire Prelude and Fugue, with Borodin’s ripely romantic First Symphony rounding off a memorable evening. EYO’s Music Director Leon Gee described it as “a fantastic and thoroughly enjoyable performance…. with great variety of musical character, committed, exciting to listen to and engaging.”
