Eli wins trophy in 2018 Concertothon

16-year old pianist Eleonora Nanni was the winner in this year’s closely contested EYO Concertothon with a barn-storming performance of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. The adjudicator, distinguished violinist Kathryn Parry, singled out her virtuosic command of the keyboard and close rapport with conductor and orchestra. Also highly commended were Nathanael Rashford for his vivid and exciting performance of Ferdinand David’s Trombone Concertino, Natasha Mallett for her sensitive and beautifully expressed Romance for Viola and Orchestra by Max Bruch and Simon Kelly for his elegant and accomplished Flute Concerto in D by Carl Reinecke. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the remarkable standard of performance by soloists and orchestra alike, with the mutually supportive atmosphere helped along by the famous EYO Spring Barbecue to kick proceedings off.

EYO’s conductor and Music Director Leon Gee commented, “Congratulations to Eleonora, Natasha, Simon and Nathanael for baring their musical souls so heroically! Well done to everyone too for adapting to ever-changing musical circumstances with such fluidity and heightened awareness. Thank you for your selfless support of the four finalists, an aspect which makes this event quite special amongst EYO’s yearly output, and is so much an integral part of the EYO ethos.”
