Join us as EYO arrives back from the summer tour of Belgium for what is always one the highlights of our year, with the players in peak form after three eagerly-anticipated concerts in Aarschot, Bruges and Antwerp. It’s always an emotional occasion too, with many players participating in their final concert before moving on to higher education.
It always feels like there’s a party going on whenever Rossini pays a visit and his Thieving Magpie Overture is fizzing with energy and excitement. Then the orchestra is joined by former member and trombone virtuoso Josh Blows for Launy Grondahl‘s attractive but rarely heard Trombone Concerto before William Walton‘s stirring and evocative Spitfire Prelude and Fugue, drawn from his score to the wartime drama First of the Few, takes us into the interval. We then round off the evening with one of the most thrilling of all orchestral works in Scheherazade, Rimsky-Korsakov’s dazzling and exotic evocation of the Tales of One Thousand and One Nights.
Please do join our wonderfully talented young musicians for what is sure to be a stirring and emotional evening of heart-stopping music.
