Join Us

We welcome applications from young musicians aged 13-18. The minimum playing standard we require is ABRSM Grade 6 or equivalent. However, in some sections where each player has their own part, the standard of our successful applicants tends to be higher.

Membership is secured through an annual audition process, primarily held in late June.

Auditions 2024-25

Our main auditions are held in the summer, and applications for our July and August audition dates have now closed. However, if you are still interested in applying, please complete an application form. We will notify you if there are vacancies in your section.

If you need further information regarding auditions feel free to contact us at auditions@eyo.org.uk.

Audition Process

All string, woodwind and brass players are asked to perform a short unaccompanied piece of music of their own choice, possibly a graded piece or an excerpt from a concerto.

Choosing something you feel at ease with and is comfortably within your ability, will enable us to hear you at your best. Please bring an extra copy of your music for use by the panel.

Percussion players are asked where possible to prepare pieces on snare drum, timpani, xylophone and optionally, their own tuned percussion.

All applicants may be asked to play a short piece of sight-reading, which will be available to prepare during the warm-up time before the audition.

Membership

Membership is by termly subscription. For 2024/25: £330 per year (£110 per term).

The Trustees of EYO are keen to ensure that membership to the orchestra is available to young people of suitable musical talent regardless of their financial situation.
